Our Department

The Emergency Department

Our 24/7 department is staffed by a multidisciplinary team: registered nurses, registered respiratory therapists, social services, pastoral care, crisis intervention, orthopedic technicians, etc. On average, the department sees 160 visits per day.

Family medicine presence in our ED:

Our department consists of a mix of CCFP, CCFP (EM), and FRCP-trained physicians. In addition to working in the ED, local family physicians are Most Responsible Physicians for most medical and rehab inpatients outside the CCU. Many work surgical assisting, as a psychiatry inpatient duty-doctor, performing newborn assessments on the Labour & Delivery unit, and in procedure clinics.

Local alternative care to our ED:

  • Primary health care provider

  • Telehealth Ontario

  • Four local walk-in clinics

  • Various outpatient testing facilities

  • North Bay Emergency Department team members collaborate every day, but participate in additional hands-on learning in monthly high fidelity simulation labs and in-situ labs, with a focus on emergency medicine.
